Places to Visit
This property is within easy reach of many interesting places.
A mile up the A4085 is the village of Rhyd Ddu with its pub and the Ty Mawr tea rooms (also serving meals).
In the village you will find the station for the Welsh Highland Railway which travels from Caernarfon calling at Waunfawr, Rhyd Ddu and Beddgelert on its way to Porthmadog and further on to Blaenau Ffestiniog. You could walk or leave your car in the car park and travel either to Beddgelert and Porthmadog or the other way to Caernarfon and visit its magnificent castle. The scenery from this little train is magnificent especially of Cwellyn Lake and the Aberglaslyn Pass.
Further along the road from Rhyd Ddu is the village of Beddgelert where legend has it that Prince Llywelyn arrived home to see blood on his faithful dog’s mouth and no sign of his young son, without any hesitation he killed his dog Gelert before realising that his son was alive and a wolf was dead.
The grave of Gelert the dog can be seen along the river in Beddgelert, literally translated as the grave of Gelert.
There is a well-stocked village shop, craft shops also the Warws which sells outdoor wear and camping equipment.
There is Lyn’s cafe serving afternoon teas, a chip shop and plenty of hotels serving meals.
Before leaving the village you must visit the ice cream parlour and taste this special homemade ice cream.
Along the A498 from Beddgelert is the Sygun Copper Mine where you will see how an industrial heritage has been transformed into a tourist attraction.
Further along this road are the lakes Dinas and Gwynant where canoeists will be in their elements and the scenery up towards Pen y Gwryd is really something.
There is more than enough to do and appreciate in this area of Snowdonia.
